HOW TO GET THERE

Perak Hotel is perfectly placed in Little India – a popular place of interest with lots of character and charm. Take time to stroll through the surrounding back lanes and bustling streets to discover nose-tingling spice shops, colourful textile stores and glittering gold jewelers. Not to be missed are the food outlets serving tantalizing Northern and Southern Indian cuisine.

Experience some of Singapore’s cultural highlights just minutes away from the Lodge. Guests can walk to the famed Raffles Hotel, Singapore History Museum, Singapore Art Museum, Chjimes, Sultan Mosque, War Memorial Park, Arab Street and several of Singapore’s fascinating Temples.

LITTLE INDIA

LITTLE INDIA is an exception among Singapore’s Historic Districts. Unlike Chinatown it was never designated as an ethnic enclave. Instead Little India emerged as an Indian-dominated urban focal point, sustained its own development momentum in rhythm with changing social, economic and political circumstances. Little India was declared a Conservation Area on July 7th, 1989.

You will know you’ve arrived at this typical Indian district when the aroma of spices and chillies overwhelms you. On Serangoon Road and in little back streets you can find sari-sellers, fortune-tellers, Indian antique shops, Indian jewelry shops and spice-millers. Little India is also the best place to experience South and North Indian vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.

LITTLE INDIA is not only known for it’s variety of shops and restaurants but also known for its temples.

THE SRI VEERAMAKALIMMAN TEMPLE built in 1881 by Bengalli labourers. It is dedicated to Kali, the ferocious incarnation of Siva’s wife.

THE CENTRAL SIKH TEMPLE is a prize-winning architectural design that has a 42-foot dome covered with white and gold mosaic tiles.

THE SRI SRINIVASA PERUMAL TEMPLE built in 1855 is dedicated to Vishnu, the protector of the world and restorer of moral order.

THE TEMPLE OF 1000 LIGHTS was built in 1927 by a Thai monk. A 50 foot, 300 ton Buddha statue is flanked by 1000 bulbs which lights up every time a donation is made.
